My apologies for not updating earlier. Things are busily bopping along. I did have a good weekend with some fun highlights that I thought I'd share, so here you go.
First, I left work early on Friday to engage in some much needed retail therapy. I actually wanted a sweater and a spring skirt, but somehow, after much store-trauma (rude sales girls, poor service, random bad happenings) I ended up with this dress:

Pretty, no? Best of all it is a piece: a) by a Canadian designer, Dihn Ba of Montreal, b) bought at a local boutique, Soho Betty - a very fun boutique run by a very cool woman, and c) that was on sale!! Dihn Ba is quite cool and I would love to own much more of his stuff. I copied the following from the Montreal Fashion Week 2006 website.
To dress sophisticated young businesswomen: that is Dinh Bà’s challenge. As part of Montreal’s Fashion Week, he showcased how well he steps up to this challenge by presenting his Spring Collection Fashion Show.
...........................................................
Dihn Bà, arrived in Montreal from Saïgon at the age of 8. He quickly developed a deep interest for drawing and arts. As destiny would want it, he would go on to discover the world of clothing and fashion at a very young age, while assisting his mother who [was] working in clothing design.
In 1998, he represented Canada in Paris at the International Young Creators competition where he was recognized three times as finalist for Excellence Young Fashion Designer. By aiming to win all the competitions in which he participates, Dihn Bà goes from one success to the next. “Always aim higher” is his motto – and that’s exactly what he’s been doing .
At the very start of his career, he had the great opportunity to learn from Lino Catalino and work at Bégain and Mackage. He grew determined to make a name for himself among the top designers. Today, Dinh Bà Design is well respected in the fashion world and recognized alongside with other very talented designers.
Clearly, my shopping experience demonstrates all good things come to those who wade through the flotsam and jetsam of clothes shopping. I also went out for coffee and makeup shopping the next day with a friend I hadn't seen in weeks. I got a full Stila makeover at Holt Renfrew, though I simply wanted to try the new floating eye shadow. I ended up getting it and a new lip gloss/stick thingy. I am such a product push over!
Oh, and I also bought a new CD. Skye Edwards (aka Skye), the ex-Morcheeba vocalist, came out with her solo debut. I am totally addicted. Then on Sunday I went to an anarchist discussion group. A person from one of the groups I am profiling in my thesis was supposed to speak. I only found out he wasn't coming after the meeting started and the door was firmly closed. So, I stayed for 2 hours of enlightening and entertaining (well, more entertainment than enlightenment ensued, but still) "discussion". Ask me about it one day - it would take way too long to write it all out.
10 days until DC!! Wooohooo!!
