This is a glib recap of the late fall/Christmas/new year.
First, Xmas was a hectic battle to carve out time for everyone this year. I did manage a day of baking with Paperfiend, and I also managed to make some Guinness cupcakes for the Xmas party at work, and a few not-anything-close-to-perfect panettone for gifts (oh, and multiple rounds of biscotti for gifts too).
New years was just as busy, and in the end we had a lovely dinner with friends and walked to the Carleton Tavern for the final countdown of 2009. Woohoo!
It was all a whirlwind of activity, but very fun! And, we had just enough time to make a traditional tourtiere for dinner for two one evening. Lucky us!
In January, work was very busy. I was on the road for a week in Saskatchewan (which has made me appreciate Saskatoon much more than a trip I took in December during their severe cold-snap!). I then co-hosted colleagues from the Vancouver office for a week (which involved some lovely dinners out, a evening at the NAC, and an evening of Market fun including cake and beaver tails for dessert on the Canal). After over a years worth of contemplation, I managed to get my skates sharpened for this skating season. Woohoo!
Then, it was off to Mexico for a quick 5 day vacation. With various changes in the works at work and in life in general, it seemed as though if we didn't go for it now, we would probably be forsaking the winter holiday. So, back to the Mayan Riviera we went, at a lovely place called Excellence Riviera Cancun. We had the best day of snorkeling in the 2nd biggest living coral reef in the world, right by the hotel, in a fishing town called Puerto Morelos. Fabulous guides, and a beautiful reef. We saw sea turtles, a ton of different fish (i.e. clown fish, barracudas, etc.), and sting rays. I, along with one of the guides, also saw an eagle ray (the huge ones with blue and white spots). Amazing! Hopefully, the pics taken on the underwater disposable will come out well and if so, I'll be sure to post them later.
Happy 2010!
