So yesterday I had a night of mega fun and good spirits (and goodwill) at the Champions for Children 14th Annual World Trivia Night at Lansdowne in the Cattle Castle. Each team is composed of 10 people, and your fees that you pay to participate -and anything raised on top of it- go to various children's charities.
It's super fun, and generally involves a lot of drinking. I think this year's questions were easier than lasts, and perhaps because of that our team managed to place 16th. It was a great team (Defense of Pants was our name) this year, and a bunch of us started the night with a quick dinner at Colonnade Pizza on Metcalfe. The trivia ran from 7pm (start time - very sharp!) 'til around 10-10:30pm or so. Afterwards, a bunch of us went to the Aloha Room to hang out before calling it a night. I hadn't been there in forever. It was not as crowded as the last time I went. While they don't play surf films all the time on the television anymore -which I think they did only briefly when they first opened- they still serve Endless Summers, so of course I had one for nostalgia's sake!
Today, the day after, was spent sleeping, working at work, grocery shopping in the cold, and cooking and baking. I made my usual diet friendly scones - a bit ho-hum, but I haven't made them in a while. The big thing of the night was making my Indian style curry. I used an organic curry spice mix as a base and added cayenne, cardamon, cinnamon, white pepper and mild smoked paprika to it. I coated some boneless, skinless chicken thighs in this mix and browned them. Then I made a big pot of onions, garlic, jalapeno pepper, ginger, and heated them up. To that I added the rest of the spice mix and warmed it up. Then I threw in my veggies (eggplant, butternut squash, orange pepper, red pepper, zucchini) and veggie broth. Cooked it through then added the sliced chicken thighs and coconut cream. Yummmmmmmmmm.
I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend as much as I am.
