Canuck Cupcakes Take DC

Mr. P sent me this article the other day that talks about two ex-Canadian sisters that opened up what is now a wildly popular (and successful) Cupcakery in Georgetown called, drumroll please, Georgetown Cupcake. It's made the crawl list for April - no contest! I'm particularly interested because of their lack of training -no pastry school or bakery experience for these gals- and clear popularity - they sell 800 cupcakes a day.

I am now research petit fours and am thinking of trying my hand at homemade fondant. You can make a tasty version with marshmellows - how cool! I do prefer liquid fondant on my petit fours, but a little experimentation can't hurt. I want to make the traditional ones with jam and marzipan & other modern variations. I know petits fours aren't cupcakes, but they are a form of small cake, so I think they are related - like cousins. Tiny, tasty cousins.
